How demand letters produce better and bigger car accident settlements

Auto accident attorney with 25 years of experience speaks in national legal webinar on tips and strategies for high settlement-producing demand letters in car accident injury cases

Car accident attorney Steve Gursten: Tips and strategies for high-settlement producing demand letters

Crafting effective settlement demand letters is both art and science. It can establish a higher reserve, it can anchor the negotiations to begin at a higher settlement range, and it can create allies on the defense side who are promoting your settlement number with the insurance company and defendants. It’s one of the most important things a skilled car accident attorney can do to get a bigger and a faster settlement for his or her clients.

But it’s not easy. Lawyers are never taught in law school how to write effective settlement demand letters. Adjusters don’t call the plaintiff attorney at the end of the case to tell him what he did wrong, or what he should have done differently to get more money for his client.

But there are certain strategies that are particularly effective – and there are also traps and pitfalls that should be avoided when writing a settlement demand letter.

All this and more is what I’ll be discussing when I speak in the live, national Strafford CLE Webinar, “Leveraging Demand Letters to Obtain Significant Settlements in Auto Accident Cases,” on March 7, 2018, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. E.S.T.

With the way that car accident litigation has evolved over the years, an effective demand letter is essential for representing car crash injury victims – and knowing how to prepare one is a vital skill that lawyers must possess.

A demand letter doesn’t always settle the case, but it often serves as the foundation for a future settlement.

My goal for the webinar is to discuss and share my own experiences of the last 25 years settling cases with insurance companies using settlement demand letters, and my own strategies and successes with using these demands to create leverage so I can get more money and faster settlements for my clients.

The issues I plan to discuss will include:

  • What are the key considerations for personal injury attorneys when drafting demand letters in auto accident cases?
  • What are some of the pitfalls that auto accident attorneys may encounter when drafting and submitting demand letters and how can they be avoided?
  • How can counsel use insurer oversights or errors as leverage to increase the settlement amount?
  • When is the best time to submit a demand letter?
