What’s behind the 21 percent increase in the MCCA assessment?

April 6, 2012 by Steven M. Gursten

A letter to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly editor from insurance lawyer Steven Gursten

Given the mandatory increase in the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) assessment for all Michigan drivers, and that the insurance industry in Michigan is aiming to simultaneously cut vital No-Fault insurance benefits with proposed “reform” laws, Steven Gursten wrote an opinion letter to Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Gursten is calling for more transparency from the MCCA regarding it’s profits and what it charges Michigan drivers.

Said Gursten: “In light of the factual discrepancies over the data used by the Michigan insurance industry to support its efforts of taking away vital no-fault protections as part of its no-fault “reform,” while at the exact same time making unreasonably high profits in this state, there has never been a greater need for transparency into the pricing decisions of the MCCA.”
