Client Testimonials

Lynda Nunez, Riverview, MI

After interviewing four different lawyers, Steven Gursten of Michigan Auto Law stood out amongst them as the guy to go to for several reasons.

My husband was killed in an automobile accident involving a gravel hauler truck on the freeway. The left front steer tire of the gravel hauler blew on I-75 near the Rouge River bridge, and the truck hit my husband’s car, trapping him between the retaining wall and the gravel hauler.

It became apparent that I needed to seek out an attorney. After interviewing four different lawyers, Steven Gursten of Michigan Auto Law stood out amongst them as the guy to go to for several reasons. There was a genuine nature about Steve. He was exceptionally easy to talk with and an incredible listener. Of course his knowledge and the know how to get the job done was apparent. He treated me with a real sense of kindness as an individual and not a potential case.

Steve settled my husband’s case out of court so I didn’t have to go through a trial. Throughout the whole process, Steve went above and beyond my expectations in terms of his hard work to uncover the truths of the matter and all of the things the trucking company did that were unsafe and contributed to the accident.

Steve treated me with a lot of respect. He responded to my questions and phone calls very promptly. I never felt like he was in a hurry to get me off the phone. He listened to everything I had to say all the time. In terms of when I had to give my deposition, he prepared me and was next to me every step of the way. That was also the case when I had to go to court before the judge for the settlement. It made me feel very safe. Steve gave me confidence and the strength to get up there and do what I had to do. He did so much research and he explored every possible avenue to get me the best settlement possible. He worked very hard for me.

Along the way, he kept me informed of the status of everything. I would say if anybody is involved in an automobile accident involving trucks or other commercial vehicles, to not hesitate to contact Steve. You will not be let down. If you’ve done your homework and investigated attorneys, Steve is the obvious right choice. I walked out of his office knowing it was a no-brainer decision to go with him. It was the right thing to do for my family, in the wake of such a terrible accident and traumatic time in our lives. I felt it in my heart, and I was right. Another thing I would like to note is that even after the case was closed, Steve is still here for me with advice and all the time I need.

What the Newspapers Say

Michigan Lawyers Weekly has written several articles about Steven Gursten. Here are some highlights:

“Gursten is clearly doing something right. Perhaps it’s that his firm is the largest in the state specializing in serious car and truck accident cases. Perhaps it’s the fact that he’s willing to take difficult cases to trial and continues to receive spectacular results. Perhaps it’s the fact that he practices law with honesty and integrity. More likely, it’s all of these things.”

“Outstanding in his field. One of Michigan’s foremost experts on No‐Fault litigation.”

In addition, Steve has recently been quoted as an attorney expert in several national publications. Here’s what they had to say about Steve:

Interesting Fact

When he was 28, Steven became the youngest attorney in Michigan history to receive a million-dollar jury verdict. The case was in Oakland County, and the insurance company, Allstate, was only offering $10,000 to settle.

I'm an attorney, but I do not handle litigation and/or auto cases. My mother was struck by a vehicle while walking, and her injuries were catastrophic. I contacted Steve to determine how to proceed, to understand how I could best help and advocate for my mom as she moved through various phases of medical treatment, followed by in and out-patient rehab, and ultimately, hopefully back home with attendant care. I also wanted to understand the pitfalls, and biggest risks (financial and otherwise) my mom would face as we proceeded. I called Steve with the intent of hiring him to handle our case, having heard through the legal community that he had a reputation of having the finest ethics, professionalism, aggressiveness as needed, while also having compassion and patience with his clients and families. Steve proved to have all those attributes and more. Steve gave me a great deal of time during our consultation(s), and invaluable information on what our family could expect and how it made sense for us to proceed legally under our circumstances. Steve was confident I could handle the matter with the third party insurance carrier and did NOT need a lawyer - he was convinced this was a matter that I could handle and did not want to accept payment even though I was prepared to pay him. He stood by me behind the scenes and guided me as needed, and was readily available to answer questions. He is unbelievably knowledgeable, detailed oriented, direct, communicative and available, and simply pleasant to deal with under horrible circumstances. Our case is not over, and I still may need Steve's services in the future. He is, with absolute certainty, the first lawyer to call in case of an auto accident. I'd recommend him with the highest praise for his intelligence, communication, compassion and thorough assistance in our family's time of crisis.

I had the opportunity and the privilege to hear Steve speak at a recent conference regarding traumatic brain injury. Steve was one of the most informative and dynamic speakers at the conference. Steve not only demonstrated his knowledge of the medicine and the law but also his compassion for representing survivors of traumatic brain injury. Steve’s presentation alone, made the 6 hour trip worth the time and investment.

After hearing Mr. Gursten speak about the dangers of distracted driving, I am inspired to make changes immediately. I have already installed apps on my phone to protect my family when I am driving, but will encourage others to do the same. Mr. Gursten's presentation was informative, influential and jaw dropping. I am so pleased that we had him speak to our parent group to help end distracted driving. I am now completely aware of how we all spend so much time driving under many influences and how we can make the change!

My eyes are opened about the real cost of distracted driving after hearing an informative talk by Steven. He presented facts in a way I could relate and I found myself planning changes even before he finished his presentation. One big take away for me is that it starts with the parents. We need to model the behavior for our children--if I text and drive or fiddle with my phone or enter an address in Waze or chat on the phone--my kids will likely do the same. It's only been one day--but I know I'll be safer and my kids will be safer after Steven's passionate, smart, digestible, presentation.

I had a very serious Accident that deeply affected my health when I was hit by a truck. I interviewed several lawyers and turned to Steve Gursten, the Head trial attorney at Michigan Auto Law for help. Steve was completely engaged with my family and I. He made it a priority to explain the law and the updates in our case so we understood everything and knew what was happening step-by-step. Steve went above and beyond and really fought for me. Steven Gursten has a well earned national reputation as one of the premier plaintiff civil trial attorneys in the U.S. I have personally worked with both Steven and his law firm on behalf of two clients on separate cases wherein the individual resided in Florida but was injured in Michigan. He is a phenomenal lawyer and an even better person. His staff is equally a pleasure to deal with and the law firm is simply a first class operation. Steven was very attentive to my client's needs and he made certain that this was an easy process for them. I would not hesitate to recommend Steven Gursten or his law firm to anyone who has been physically injured due to the negligence exhibited by an individual or corporation. Steve is known as a pre-eminent trial lawyer, but I was surprised at just how humble and pleasant he is in our dealings. Finally, this is the lawyer you call when your dealing with a defendant with unlimited resources. Steve and his firm have the ability to deal with even the biggest corporate giants and hold them accountable for the harms they caused and the losses you have suffered. - Matthew A. Dolman, Esq. I was involved in a car accident on October 13, 2012. I have two herniated disks in my neck and I suffer from serious migraine headaches. I had to stop working and I needed to figure out how to be able to care for myself. I also felt someone needed to be held responsible for my injuries. Michigan Auto Law took my case. It helped a lot. I was very depressed after the accident. Even though I have family and friends, having the support from my lawyer Ian made me feel like I had other people in my corner as I was recovering. Ian is very real and straight to the point. He comforted me and was honest about all of the possibilities that could occur in my lawsuit. He spelled everything out for me, like how to process my feelings about the lawsuit all while trying to understand the law and difference stages of my case. Ian and his paralegal Laurie were always available for me whenever I needed anything. My life has changed a lot with this accident. The settlement Ian got me is like a second chance.

Recovering from my car accident was one of the most difficult things I've had to face in my life. My wife and I had no money coming in, we got cut off from my lost wages and had medical bills piling up through the roof. Our rent, DET, gas bills... Nothing was getting paid. My lawyer helped turn my life around. Bobby Raitt is one of the most important people in my life. If I needed anything, he was there for me. We had no money coming in. He loaned us money personally, just so our grandkids could have a Christmas. Bobby made sure I understood everything that was happening with my case before I left the office. It took me a while to understand because of my unbearable mental stress, but he was always patient. And if it wasn't for Bobby talking to me on the phone, I would have lost my mind. My other attorney Alison Duffy helped us just as much as Bobby. I loved her. They were a fantastic team who always protected us. This whole firm is wonderful. Colleen, their secretary is the sweetest lady I ever met. I would recommend this law firm to anybody. They got me an awesome settlement. But the personal support I received from Michigan Auto Law is what really saved my life.
