*Data includes any car accident (including fender benders, injury crashes and fatal crashes) that occurred within 250 feet of the intersection, including turnarounds and on/off ramps to highways. “Intersection” is defined as any road with a traffic signal, four-way stop or roundabout.
No. 1 Dangerous Intersection: Telegraph and 12 Mile Roads, Southfield
Remaining at the top spot for Oakland County’s most dangerous intersections is the busy area along Telegraph Road. While there was a slight reduction in car accidents going from 150 in 2017 to 145 in 2018, this corner remained not only at the top spot for Oakland County but also the top spot in the state for intersection car crashes in 2018. The number of injuries also remains high with 24 in 2018. Use caution in this busy area where high speeds factor into car accidents.
No. 2 Dangerous Intersection: Orchard Lake and 14 Mile Roads – Farmington Hills/West Bloomfield
This congested roundabout saw the exact same number of car crashes in 2018 as it did in 2017. Injuries dropped slightly though from 24 in 2017 to 20 in 2018. The high number moves this roundabout into the No. 2 spot on the top 10 list of Oakland County’s most dangerous intersections for 2018 intersection car accidents in the state of Michigan, up from the No. 4 spot in 2017.

One additional area that saw a significant increase in car accidents was the freeway interchange in Auburn Hills of I 75 and M 59 which went from 90 car crashes in 2017 to 115 in 2018. In addition, there was one fatality and 30 injuries – making this area the fourth highest in the state for injuries at an intersection or interchange. High speeds and merging traffic can make these interchanges dangerous, use caution driving through this area.
