Four Michigan Auto Law trial attorneys have been designated in the top 1% of the nation’s lawyers.
The legal honor comes from the National Association of Distinguished Counsel, designating the following in the top 1%:
- Steven Gursten
- Kevin Seiferheld
- Thomas James
- Ian Freed
This comes after 11 of our attorneys were named Super Lawyers (top 5%) for the past several years, and five of our attorneys were named Best Lawyers in America (limited to the top 2.4% of all lawyers).
But what do these legal awards and honors really mean?
I believe they’re a reflection of the way our attorneys treat the people we serve.
We don’t do every area of law, but we do one area of law and we aim to do it better than any other law firm in the state, year after year. And we’re entrusted with the awesome responsibility of protecting for the people who turn to us for help after they’ve been injured in serious auto accidents – through legal settlements for the rest of their lives.
For our lawyers, this means treating every person we represent with compassion, care and constant communication. It is the caring and communication that in turn leads to our lawyers recovering the best auto accident verdicts and settlements in the state for the past 18 consecutive years, based upon year-end compilations of the top reported trial verdicts and injury settlements by Michigan Lawyers Weekly and Verdictsearch.
We feel truly honored. We believe law is a profession, not a business. We are not a settlement mill, churning people through in volume where they get passed along from attorney to attorney. We don’t have jingles on radio or television. We simply try our hardest to reach the best possible results for our clients, and to provide care and communication to every person we help along the way. We aim to make a real difference.

The National Association of Distinguished Counsel is a legal organization that recognizes attorneys who elevate the standards of the bar and provide a benchmark for other lawyers to emulate. Members are vetted by a professional legal research team, a peer panel of blue ribbon attorneys and a judicial review board.
