CURE Auto Insurance Complaints: A Troubling Pattern Begins To Emerge

If you’ve been following my blog post and my website on CURE Auto Insurance, you already know that despite operating in Michigan for just four years, CURE ranks second among Michigan’s 82 largest auto insurers for the highest number of complaints in 2024 -even though CURE was only the 16th largest auto insurer in Michigan.
The number of complaints filed against CURE jumped nearly 50% between 2023 and 2024 (the most current years for which Michigan data is publicly available).
This got me wondering: If CURE is already performing so poorly in Michigan, how does it fare in its home state of New Jersey, where the company was founded in 1990?
Could there be a larger pattern with how CURE is adjusting claims?
Cure Auto Insurance Complaints in New Jersey
In 2024, CURE ranked as the #1 “WORST” auto insurance company in New Jersey based on consumer complaints among New Jersey’s 24 largest auto insurers – even though CURE was only the 13th largest auto insurer, according to the State of New Jersey Department of Banking & Insurance.
Specifically:
- CURE had the HIGHEST “valid complaint ratio” (a measure of complaints relative to the size of the company).
- CURE also ranked HIGHEST for its “valid complaint index,” which is a measure of how CURE compares with New Jersey’s other largest auto insurers.
[Note: 2024 is the most current year for which New Jersey insurance data about consumer complaints is publicly available.]
Did CURE’s own policy on adjusting customer claims change in the last two years? It seems something certainly changed as there has been a sharp increase in complaints against CURE in both Michigan and New Jersey.
Specifically:
- In Michigan, complaints against CURE Auto Insurance jumped nearly 50% over the past two years.
- In New Jersey, complaints against CURE Auto Insurance increased by more than 30% over the same time period.
What’s more striking here is the number of complaints relative to CURE’s size in each market.
CURE Auto Insurance isn’t even close to being one of the largest auto insurers in New Jersey or in Michigan:
- In 2024, CURE Auto Insurance had the highest valid complaint ratio and the highest valid complaint index among New Jersey’s 24 largest auto insurers – even though CURE was only the 13th largest auto insurer
- In 2023, CURE Auto Insurance had the second highest valid complaint ratio and the second highest valid complaint index among New Jersey’s 26 largest auto insurers – even though CURE was only the 15th largest auto insurer.
- In 2022, CURE Auto Insurance had the second highest valid complaint ratio and the second highest valid complaint index among New Jersey’s 25 largest auto insurers – even though CURE was only the 18th largest auto insurer.
I can’t help but wonder if there is something larger going on here?
- What is the likelihood that CURE ranks second in consumer complaints in Michigan after just four years, among the 82 largest insurers in the state?
- What is the likelihood that CURE also ranks #1“WORST” for complaints among the 24 largest auto insurers in New Jersey, a state where CURE has operated for over three decades?
Fortunately, I’ll soon be able to find out.
CURE has recently filed a defamation lawsuit against me because they didn’t like a blog I wrote. This lawsuit allows me to conduct legal discovery, including into how many customers CURE has denied and attempted to deny coverage to in Michigan and into just how many customers the company has attempted to rescind coverage and deny coverage to in order to avoid paying claims. One CURE representative has testified under oath that they are rescinding policies at a rate of approximately 1.5 CURE customers a day. I believe the real number may be much higher.
A Disturbing Pattern of Behavior Begins to Emerge?
The experiences from our own clients who have CURE insurance, the stories I’ve been hearing from CURE policyholders who are contacting me through the website whenCUREwontpay.com, the court orders and motions I am receiving from other lawyers, and the high number of customer complaints from both Michigan and New Jersey – especially when considered in relation to CURE’s size and market position in both states – all suggest there may be a much larger story here waiting to be told.
Stay tuned.
