No. 1: 11 MILE RD/I 696 @ VAN DYKE AVE, Warren
Number 1 on the list of Macomb County’s Most Dangerous Intersections for the fourth year in a row, this intersection had 185 total crashes in 2024, a 15% drop from 218 in 2023. In 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019, there were 207, 173, 124, and 129, respectively.
Fortunately, injuries at this interchange were at their lowest in the last six years. In 2024, injuries fell to 26, down 50% from 52 in 2023. Previously, there were 41 in 2022, 38 in 2021, 33 in 2020, and 31 in 2019.
No. 2: 18 1/2 MILE RD @ VAN DYKE AVE, Sterling Heights
In 2024, there were 162 total crashes at this busy interchange – which also happens to be a roundabout – up from 135 in 2023. In 2022, there were 118 total motor vehicle accidents. In 2021, there were 168 total car accidents. And there were 131 in 2020 and 229 in 2019.
Injuries were up in 2024, from 9 in 2023 to 12 in 2024. In 2022, 2021, 2020, and 2019, there were 10, 17, 8 and 14 injuries, respectively.
