Did CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe Deceive The Detroit News?

In its August 14th issue, The Detroit News launched an expose on the shocking number of customer complaints that have been filed against CURE. When asked by The Detroit News about all those complaints that have been filed against CURE Auto Insurance, CEO Eric Poe says it’s because of billboards that my law firm has put up.
But unless I have a time machine, how can billboards launched on September 20th, 2024 affect any of the complaints filed against CURE in 2022?
Or any of the customer complaints against CURE in 2023?
Or during the first 9 months and 20 days of 2024?
The timeline makes Poe’s explanation impossible. CEO Eric Poe is attempting to blame almost 3 full years of complaints against CURE Auto Insurance on billboards that . . . didn’t even exist until after all of these very voluminous customer complaints had already been made.
CEO Eric Poe’s excuse is even more ridiculous when considering the flood of complaints against CURE Auto Insurance New Jersey – where the company is headquartered and also operates.
Keep in mind, Michigan Auto Law has NEVER put up a single CURE billboard anywhere in New Jersey. But CURE has ranked as the second “worst” auto insurer in New Jersey based on consumer complaints in both 2023 and 2022, according to the State of New Jersey Department of Banking & Insurance.
So, Mr. Poe, are you going to blame that dumpster fire of consumer complaints that have been lodged against CURE Auto Insurance in New Jersey on a handful of billboards that went up in Michigan on September 20th, 2024 as well?

Perhaps you, CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe, can answer the real question that you’ve been ducking:
What is CURE doing – both in Michigan and New Jersey – that is causing so many of its own customers to file complaints against CURE?
CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe never does answer the question. He doesn’t try to explain why consumer complaints against CURE more than tripled between 2022 and 2023?
Or why, in 2023, which was only CURE’s second full year of doing business in Michigan, CURE had the 3rd highest number of complaints of Michigan’s 85 largest auto insurers.
So CEO Eric Poe blaming the billboards for the skyrocketing number of customer complaints made against CURE Auto Insurance appears to be just another transparent attempt to spin the truth.
But this isn’t the first time that CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe seems to have had trouble with addressing the truth with reporters.
In an interview with the Detroit Free Press in November 2024, CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe explained that he decided to sue me and Michigan Auto Law AFTER we “launch[ed] a campaign” against his company.
But that statement isn’t accurate at all. In fact, the billboards that CEO Eric Poe complained about weren’t displayed until AFTER CURE Auto Insurance sued me, not before he sued me.
I’ve been writing about different insurance companies for over 10 years, as an auto accident and insurance lawyer, giving my recommendations on the ones I like and think are good and the ones I think people should stay away from. I have a pretty unique perspective as my law firm is the largest in Michigan specializing in auto accidents, and our attorneys see first-hand how every insurance company in the state treats our clients.
On February 15, 2024, I published a blog post asking if CURE Auto Insurance is good. The blog was based on what our attorneys were seeing with how CURE was treating our clients and on public information published by the State of Michigan about the high number of customer complaints against CURE.
On February 27, 2024, CURE’s general counsel sent me a very nasty cease-and-desist letter, threatening to sue me if I didn’t remove it.
I responded, explaining that the public has a right to know and the information about consumer complaints against CURE was public information put out by the State of Michigan and I wasn’t about to be bullied by someone who was trying to hide this information from the public.
Six months later, on August 28, 2024, CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe sued me and my law firm, Michigan Auto Law, over the blog post
It wasn’t until AFTER CURE filed its lawsuit that I put up the CURE billboards on September 20, 2024.
So, CURE Auto Insurance CEO Eric Poe, do I have a magic time machine or did you just get caught giving another false account – yet again – to another reporter?
And maybe now you can answer the question you tried to evade from The Detroit News: just what is CURE doing that is causing all of these customers of your insurance company to file customer complaints?
Because we both know it’s not the billboards.
