  2. HENRY ST @ NORTON AVE, Norton Shores, 35 Total Crashes, 9 Injuries
  3. APPLE AVE @ SHONAT ST, Muskegon Twp, 34 Total Crashes, 8 Injuries
  4. HARVEY ST @ STERNBERG RD, Fruitport Twp, 32 Total Crashes, 2 Injuries
  5. HENRY ST @ SHERMAN BLVD, Muskegon, 31 Total Crashes, 9 Injuries
  6. APPLE AVE @ GETTY ST, Muskegon, 28 Total Crashes, 20 Injuries
  7. NORTON AVE @ SEAWAY DR, Norton Shores, 26 Total Crashes, 2 Injuries
  8. GETTY ST @ LAKETON AVE, Muskegon, 25 Total Crashes, 5 Injuries
  9. LAKETON AVE @ SEAWAY DR, Muskegon, 24 Total Crashes, 12 Injuries
  10. GETTY ST @ SHERMAN BLVD, Muskegon Heights, 23 Total Crashes, 8 Injuries

The crash data encompasses and includes any traffic accident reported that occurred within 200 feet of an intersection including near freeways (and their subsequent on-ramps off-ramps and service streets), divided highways and rural roads.)

More Information On The Top 2 of Muskegon County’s Most Dangerous Intersections

No. 1: US 31 @ SHERMAN BLVD, Muskegon

This busy area east of Muskegon claimed the No. 1 spot for the most dangerous intersection in Muskegon County in 2023 – for the second year in a row.

In 2023, there were 42 total crashes, which was an increase from 38 in 2022. In 2020, there were a total of 43 motor vehicle accidents at this interchange. And, in 2019, there were 64. 

Injuries dropped to 2 in 2023 from 7 in 2022. In 2020, there were 8 injuries. 

This intersection did not make the list in 2021. Injuries data for 2019 is not currently available.

As we see many intersections on these lists across the state that are freeway on and off ramps, drivers should continue to use caution when entering and exiting US 31.  

No. 2: HENRY ST @ NORTON AVE, Norton Shores

In 2023, there were 35 total crashes at this Muskegon County intersection, up from 27 in 2022 and 23 in 2021.

Injuries in 2023 dropped to 9 from 12 in 2022. In 2021, there were 5 injuries.
