More Information On The Top 2 Kent County and Grand Rapids Most Dangerous Intersections

No. 1: U.S. 131 and Wealthy Road Interchange, Grand Rapids

Local drivers will not be surprised to see this interchange taking the top spot once again on our Top 10 list of Kent County and Grand Rapids most dangerous intersections as it has for five years in a row. Of concern though is that in 2019 this interchange saw a 45% increase in total traffic accidents, going from 85 in 2018 to 123 in 2019. These figures include reported traffic accidents both where Wealthy Street goes over the highway and the entrance and exit ramps off U.S. 131. The closure of I 196 over the Grand River in 2019 may have affected traffic volume and thus the risk of auto accidents in the area.

No. 2: U.S. 131 and Burton Road Interchange, Grand Rapids

Just two miles south on US 131 where the freeway runs under Burton Road is the No. 2 spot on the list of the top 10 Kent County and Grand Rapids most dangerous intersections. With 75 car accidents in 2019, there was a slight increase from the 72 auto accidents in 2018. Use caution along these busy interchanges.

As has been the case in past years, half of the top ten interchanges for traffic accidents in Kent County and Grand Rapids are along busy 28th Street. Continue using caution along this congested east/west corridor.

Impact of Construction on Kent County and Grand Rapids Most Dangerous Intersections

With the continued construction along I 196 and I 96 during the 2020 season in Kent County, motorists will be using more local roads to navigate the detours. This will create higher traffic volumes and likely more traffic accidents. Always use caution driving in these areas and stay alert.
