*Data includes any car accident (including fender benders, injury crashes and fatal crashes) that occurred within 250 of the intersection, including turnarounds and on/off ramps to highways. “Intersection” is defined as any road with a traffic signal, four-way stop or roundabout.

No. 1  Dangerous Intersection: Saginaw Street and Homer Street, Lansing Twp

Moving up several spots in 2017 is an exit off northbound US 127 onto busy Saginaw Street connecting Lansing to East Lansing.  The sharp increase in total crashes from 50 in 2016 to 69 in 2017 is a disturbing trend at this intersection from 39 total crashes in 2015.  As more traffic volume from neighboring Frandor Mall likely contributes, use caution in this busy area as injury crashes are increasing as well with 19 reported in 2017.

No. 2  Dangerous Intersection: Grand River Ave and Hagadorn Road, East Lansing

For the first time in three years, this busy corner on the northeast edge of Michigan State University’s campus had a decrease in total car crashes going from an all-time high of 75 crashes in 2016 to 62 crashes in 2017.   This unique area consistently shows up in our lists of high crash intersections for Ingham County in part due to five lanes of traffic in each direction.  Use caution in this busy area – especially with pedestrian traffic from the college campus.
