We’re proud to say no other Michigan auto accident law firm comes close to having as many attorneys recognized by Super Lawyers for excellence in personal injury litigation
I’m happy to announce that 10 Michigan Auto Law attorneys have been named to the Super Lawyers list for the best attorneys in Michigan for 2017. Being honored as a Super Lawyer is limited to the top 5% of all Michigan lawyers. The Super Lawyers awards are under the personal injury litigation practice section.
That’s 10 straight years of being recognized by Michigan lawyers as leaders in our field of auto accident and personal injury law.
Besides myself, our 2017 Michigan Auto Law Super Lawyers include fellow partners Lawrence Gursten, Leonard Koltonow and Robert Raitt, along with Brandon Hewitt, Thomas James and Kevin Seiferheld. In addition, Alison Duffy, Jordan Jones and Joshua Terebelo were named “Rising Stars.”
Bobby Raitt and myself have also been named in the top 100 lawyers in Michigan, out of over 60,000 lawyers.
Get to know Michigan Auto Law’s ‘2017 Michigan Super Lawyers’
Being named to this Super Lawyers list is rewarding — but I always try to correct people who congratulate me, because the Super Lawyers honor matters less for the honor itself, but far more as a testament to the way our law office treats the people we’re entrusted with helping. While top auto accident settlements and verdicts are why we normally receive lawyer referrals, these settlements and verdicts wouldn’t happen without first and foremost, having genuine care for our clients and the compassion to truly want to help them.
The award matters most as a recognition of our commitment to our clients.
Here is more information on our Michigan Auto Law Super Lawyers:
Steven M. Gursten: I’ve been handling very serious car accident, truck accident injury and wrongful death cases for more than 20 years. I’ve been named a Michigan Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the Year, and a Leader in the Law for my work promoting truck safety. I serve as President of the Motor Vehicle Trial Lawyers Association, I am Past-President of the American Association for Justice Truck Accident Lawyer Litigation Group, and I am the Chair-elect of the Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyer Group of AAJ. I’ve been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in Michigan and a Best Lawyers Lawyer of the Year for 2016-17, and I recently received one of American law’s most prestigious honors, the Melvin M. Belli Society annual Mel Award.
Lawrence E. Gursten: Larry is the founding partner of Michigan Auto Law, and his legal career as one of the top auto accident attorneys in the country spans more than 40 years. He started his career with the highest score on the Michigan Bar Exam, and continues today to passionately advocate for auto accident victims throughout the state. He has been called Michigan’s “auto law guru” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly and is considered one of the most knowledgeable attorneys in the state on Michigan’s auto No-Fault insurance laws.
Leonard M. Koltonow: Lenny is a top trial lawyer and law firm partner with Michigan Auto Law, and he’s been recognized as one of the best trial lawyers in Michigan for over 35 years. He has been named one of the very best trial attorneys in the state by the Michigan Association for Justice and the National Trial Lawyers Association. Lenny achieves truly excellent settlement results and jury verdicts for his clients, all of whom are very serious auto accident victims. These include a recent $1.45 million jury verdict in Detroit on an insurance company offer of $400,000 in a strongly contested truck accident negligence and injury case. Lenny also is a respected court-appointed special case evaluator and arbitrator.
Robert M. Raitt: Bobby is a Michigan Auto Law trial attorney and law firm partner. He is past-president of the Michigan Association for Justice — a victims’ rights organization comprised of over 2,000 Michigan personal injury attorneys and consumer rights attorneys. Bobby has received multiple million-dollar verdicts and settlements, including most recently a $4.6 million verdict in a traumatic brain injury case in Wayne County. He has received many legal awards and honors, including a “Best Lawyers in Michigan” designation (limited to the top 2.4% of all Michigan attorneys), and he works tirelessly for those injured in auto accidents.
Kevin H. Seiferheld: Kevin has been a top trial lawyer at Michigan Auto Law for 15 years. He specializes in catastrophic car crash and auto No-Fault insurance cases. He has received top reported settlements for wrongful death cases, including a tragic tire-off case last year that killed a University of Michigan student. He also litigates attendant care lawsuits for catastrophic injuries and municipal vehicle accident cases such as those involving city municipal buses that cause serious injury bus accidents and commercial vehicle crashes. Kevin has obtained millions of dollars for his injured clients, and is a tenacious fighter and caring advocate both inside and out of the courtroom.
Brandon M. Hewitt: Brandon is a trial attorney in Michigan Auto Law’s West Michigan law office in downtown Grand Rapids. He prides himself on providing his clients with extraordinary care and communication, and his injury settlements reflect this attention. Brandon’s clients have the confidence that they’re in the hands of an advocate with a proven record of top injury settlements. Complete client satisfaction and confidence is Brandon’s top priority. Brandon is also the Chief Operations Officer of Michigan Auto Law.
Thomas M. James: Tom focuses his practice in auto accidents, first-party lawsuits, attendant care claims, truck accident litigation and insurance coverage disputes. With nearly 30 trials, Tom is considered one of the leading personal injury trial attorneys in Michigan, and he is also a caring advocate for his clients. He’s passionate about holding auto insurance companies accountable for refusing to honor their legal obligations and their contractual promises to customers.
Alison F. Duffy: As a litigation and trial attorney at Michigan Auto Law, Alison focuses her practice on trying auto accident and No-Fault cases. In doing so, she has gained extensive experience handling Medicare, Medicaid or ERISA issues that arise in No-Fault litigation, which has resulted in her being regularly consulted on the subject. Alison has had notable courtroom success, including a $4.6 million Wayne County verdict in a traumatic brain injury case. She has litigated numerous cases before state and federal court juries. The legal newspaper Michigan Lawyers Weekly named Alison as one of its “Up & Coming Lawyers.”
Jordan M. Jones: Besides being a litigation attorney at Michigan Auto Law, Jordan also specializes in serious truck accident case investigation and first-party No-Fault litigation. He was a part of the team that in 2014 earned the top-reported truck accident injury settlement in the United States — a settlement of $34 million in Ohio. Jordan was also an integral part of the trial team that in 2012 handled a $2.55 million jury trial in Macomb County — the highest reported truck accident verdict in the state of Michigan for that year (according to published reports from Michigan Lawyers Weekly). Michigan Lawyers Weekly named Jordan as one of its “Up & Coming Lawyers.”
Joshua R. Terebelo: Josh works in the law firm’s auto No-Fault and PIP litigation division, where he focuses on No-Fault PIP insurance lawsuits. Josh helps victims of auto accidents receive their first-party No-Fault insurance personal injury protection (PIP) benefits, and is widely consulted on helping Michigan insurance lawyers recover penalty interest and attorney fees in first-party No-Fault insurance lawsuits. Josh is also considered one of the most knowledgeable injury attorneys in Michigan on representing helping Canadians who are injured in automobile accidents when traveling in Michigan and has lectured on the differences between Canadian personal injury law and Michigan’s auto No-Fault law.
