Elderly driving debate: Attorney Steve Gursten weighs in as legal expert on Fox 2

Just how old is too old to drive? Attorney Steven Gursten weighed in as a legal expert on Fox 2 News Detroit’s “Let it Rip.”

Here’s the show:

Sadly, the debate about older drivers bubbled up again following the tragic death of an 88-year-old Livonia woman. According to published reports, Lorriane McKaig was driving to her favorite restaurant, but got confused at a detour, and was finally found unresponsive all the way on Detroit’s east side, in the frigid temperatures.

Gursten told Let it Rip host Huel Perkins and Fox 2′s legal analyst Charlie Langton that when age affects the ability to drive, it’s time to hand over the keys:

“For the elderly, it’s the advances of the aging process. So that’s why they get confused and they go the wrong way on a freeway. Or because they have problems with visual acuity or being able to see, or delayed perception and reaction time, they run over the child in the neighborhood.”
