Lawyer Steve Gursten talks increasing MI speed limit with Fox 2 News

August 23, 2013 by Steven M. Gursten

Attorney Steven M. Gursten speaks with Fox 2 News Detroit reporter Roop Raj on the extreme dangers of increasing speed limits in Michigan.

Currently, there’s a law in the works by Sen. Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) that would raise the speed limit across the entire state to up to 80 MPH.

Gursten says while it may save commuters a few minutes of driving time, it’s not worth the increase in car accident deaths and injuries that will surely ensue at faster speeds. He added that with the increase in distracted driving, increasing speed limits in Michigan is an elixir for disaster.

“Speed kills. The faster cars go, the more people are going to be injured, and the more people are going to die,” Gursten said. “Will the benefit of arriving two or three minutes faster be worth the number of people who will be killed or seriously injured?”
