Lawyer Steven Gursten in Michigan Lawyers Weekly on proposed laws that would stop lawyers from contacting crash victims within first 30 days
Steven Gursten, attorney and head of Michigan Auto Law, is featured in a Michigan Lawyers Weekly story on the status of House Bills 4770-4771, which would prohibit attorneys – and other special interests like auto insurance companies – from contacting injured auto accident victims within the first 30 days following a crash.
The laws would also punish injury lawyers who engage in the practice with up to a felony and $15,000-$30,000 in fines.
Michigan Lawyers Weekly is reporting that these bills are moving quickly through the Michigan Legislature.
Gursten said attorney solicitation is a detriment to auto accident victims and the legal profession:
“We’re supposed to be helping the public and we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot. I think when you talk to the people who are respected on both sides; everyone is in favor of this.”
