For personal injury lawyers: Niche specialization in auto accident cases

May 2, 2011 by Steven M. Gursten

Steve Gursten of Michigan Auto Law is speaking to the Chicago Bar Association on helping injury attorneys increase car accident settlements through specialization

This week, I’ll be speaking in Chicago to a group of injury lawyers for the Chicago Bar Association. My topic is helping injury lawyers get better results for their clients — by devoting their practices to only one area of law and becoming the best lawyers they can be.

This conference is so important because insurance companies are now (more than ever), working hard to minimize auto accident settlements through various dishonest tactics, such as claims software like Colossus. Personal injury lawyers throughout the country are fighting for every dollar for our injured clients.

My presentation details my own auto accident law practice, with tips on how personal injury lawyers can choose a niche specialty in order to settle accident cases faster, and for more money.

In Michigan, despite the harshest auto law in the entire country, Michigan Auto Law has grown from six to 19 lawyers. This was when when tort “reform” wiped out many personal injury law firms and barred thousands of innocent, seriously injured car accident victims from bringing lawsuits.

How were we able to do this? By specializing in only one area of law – auto accidents. Our injury lawyers have unsurpassed knowledge, trial and litigation experience and resources in handling only auto accident cases. We know what claims adjusters look at, and if an issue arises, we’ve probably seen it before.

Specializing only in serious car accident, truck accident and motorcycle accident cases leads to trial and settlement results – including the top auto accident verdict in five of the past nine years – that no other law firm in Michigan can match. These results then lead other injury lawyers in Michigan and throughout the country to refer us serious auto accident cases. It’s a process that only succeeds because of intense specialization in one area of law.

Steve Gursten is one of the nation’s top injury lawyers handling auto accident lawsuits. He is head of Michigan Auto Law and has received the highest verdict in the state for a car accident or truck accident victim in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
