Steve Gursten is interviewed on auto insurance for Zipcar members – in case of a serious car accident that could leave them financially ruined
In a recent finance article on insurance coverage for people who rent cars (specifically, Zipcars), The New York Times featured Steve Gursten, auto accident lawyer and partner of Michigan Auto Law. Gursten was interviewed on his extensive knowledge of auto insurance coverage and policies, and what’s best to protect drivers of rental cars.
The New York Times reporter posed the following situation to Gursten: A Zipcar driver who caused a car accident now has a million-dollar judgment to pay the injured accident victim. Will the lawyer for the person hurt or killed by the Zipcar driver settle for the $300,000 in insurance that Zipcar covers and then simply go away?
“If you have a young Wall Street stockbroker or someone with a really nice six-figure income or has big future earning potential, it is going to be a different case,” said Steven M. Gursten, a lawyer who has won the largest jury verdict for auto accident victims in Michigan in four of the last eight years. “In 16 years of doing this every single day, I’ve had a handful of doctors and others with multimillion-dollar houses and $50,000 in policy limits.”
