Steve Gursten of Michigan Auto Law is speaking on maximizing settlements for auto accident victims and other tips for injury attorneys
Today, I’ll be speaking in Las Vegas to a group of injury attorneys from around the country during the Personal Injury Litigators Summit. The topic for the conference is Overcoming the Top 15 Barriers to Winning More for Your Clients. My topic is helping injury attorneys get better results for their clients on auto accident cases.
This conference is important because insurance companies are now more than ever, working hard to minimize auto accident settlements and verdicts with new claims software like Colossus. And injury attorneys from around the country must fight for every dollar for our clients, as the insurance companies push Republican legislatures to push ever more “tort reform,” so they can increase profits at the expense of accident victims. As an aside, I’m always amazed how “conservatives” are willing to shift the costs of harms from negligent wrongdoers to the public, since caps on No-Fault benefits simply shifts the costs from insurance companies (who were paid to take on the risk) to the public and Medicare. It’s a sad testament to the power of the insurance company lobby in America as they punish accident victims and attack injury lawyers.
My presentation covers restructuring a successful auto accident law practice so injury attorneys are able to settle accident cases faster, and for more money. In Michigan, despite the worst auto law in the entire country, our own law firm has grown from six to 19 lawyers. This was at a time when tort “reform” wiped out many personal injury attorneys and barred thousands of innocent, seriously injured auto accident victims from the courts.
This growth at Michigan Auto Law has made our law firm “Michigan’s largest law firm completely specializing in automobile accidents,” according to Michigan Lawyers Weekly. A major part of my presentation will be how we were able to do this, despite the auto law in Michigan, and most importantly, without hardly any public advertising. This means no television commercials, no Yellow Pages, as well as no billboards, buses, radio or newspapers ads. Our growth has focused on our results, and because of these results, injury attorneys both in Michigan and throughout the country refer us serious auto accident cases.
I hope my seminar will help my fellow personal injury attorneys, as we all need to be armed with the knowledge that will allow us better protect and serve our clients.
