Our Michigan auto accident lawyers wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

November 25, 2010 by Steven M. Gursten

We wish our clients, family and friends a wonderful Thanksgiving. On this Thanksgiving, the people who work here are thankful for our clients – real people we have the incredible honor of helping in their times of greatest need.

I often say I have the best job in the world. Yes, as an auto accident lawyer, I work crazy hours. And when I’m in trial, I have to push everything else aside, and unfortunately that sometimes include family. But I try to make them understand my responsibility and obligation, and this is what I am so thankful for: I get to help people – really, truly help them. There are very few people who can say they make real differences in people’s lives.

We live in a state with a rampant problem of really dangerous trucking companies that flagrantly violate important federal and state safety laws, killing far more of our Michigan residents than the national average. We have Michigan auto insurance companies that lead the nation in profit margins and who send injured people to shameless mill “cut-off” doctors who terminate needed benefits for medical care and wage loss.

And we live in a state where bad trucking companies and bad insurance companies often get away with it, because Michigan has no bad faith laws, punitive damages and no consumer protection act to hold these companies accountable when they break the law and put everyone in danger. My clients depend on me and the other lawyers and incredible staff here, because they find themselves put in horrible situations and in danger of losing everything. For them, we are all they have. What an incredible honor to change people’s lives and really help people in need.

My blog will resume on Nov. 30.
