The Most Dangerous Traffic Intersections in Warren, Michigan

12 Mile Road and Dequindre & 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke have highest number of car accidents for 2009

Today wraps up my yearly series sharing the most dangerous intersections in Southeast Michigan, compliments of SEMCOG’s list of the 10 intersections in Southeast Michigan with the highest number of car accidents for 2009. Obviously, no one can 100 percent avoid being involved in a car accident, but hopefully we can all lower the likelihood by avoiding these dangerous spots or at the very least, exercising more care. Last but not least on my list are a couple of particularly treacherous intersections in Warren, which is located in Macomb County, Michigan.

As an auto accident lawyer, I have many cases in Macomb County, and my law firm has an east side office located at 38600 Van Dyke Road.

Unfortunately, I’ve helped people that have been injured in Warren quite often. It’s a congested area, with lots of traffic, distractions and people entering the road from many different angles because of the shopping, stores and neighborhoods all within the city.

Warren traffic is usually heavy. Van Dyke Road, Dequindre Road, Schoenherr Road and Hoover all shoot through the city, making it easy for the rushed shoppers or commuters to speed through in efforts to hop on I-696. And as a lawyer who makes it to motion day in Macomb Circuit Court every Monday, I’m very familiar with the lines and congestion (especially around my Dunkin’).

According to SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments), here are the highest auto accident intersections in Warren, Michigan for 2009:

* 12 Mile Road and Dequindre Road; 57 car accidents

* 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue; 52 car accidents

The intersection of 12 Mile Road and Dequindre Road is directly off of I-696. Universal Mall used to be there, but it’s still is a very busy shopping area and the location of a number of car accidents and fender benders each year.

Even though it’s a surface street, Van Dyke is one of the busiest Roads in Warren. The intersection of 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue is right on top of I-696; so the area is essentially like two freeways converging. When you get off the freeway onto Van Dyke, you’ll see Campbell Ewald, lots of restaurants, commercial buildings, shopping, and the sprawling Warren Civic Center. There are also many General Motors employees en route to the GM Tech Center. Be careful.

Again, I’d like to remind my cherished clients, friends and readers to try to avoid these intersections or at the very least, exercise as much caution as you can when you use these busy Warren intersections. This will at least lessen the chances of becoming involved in a car accident. Remember, always drive defensively, stay focused by remaining aware of your surroundings and other drivers – and staying off the phone (no texting, either).

With so many car crashes happening in Warren and with Michigan’s notorious No-Fault law stipulations and strict time limits to file accident cases, it’s wise to print and keep this accident scene checklist in case you find yourself or a loved one in an accident situation. Being prepared and aware of the dangers at these hazardous intersections are important factors in protecting yourself while driving around Southeast Michigan.
