Michigan Auto Law recognized for exposing Michigan’s hazardous intersections

Steven Gursten and Todd Berg of Michigan Auto Law give Michigan media an assessment of the areas that saw the most car crashes and injuries in 2016

Michigan Auto Law has been recognized for its ongoing efforts to make Michigan motorists aware of hazardous traffic in Michigan, with several news outlets reporting on the firm’s recently released 2016 Most Dangerous Intersections in Michigan list and the launch of an all-in-one resource page for Most Dangerous Intersections.

The list of 20 most dangerous intersections in Michigan is based on 2016 data (the latest available) from the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit. The unit collects motor vehicle accident reports from local law enforcement to identify what intersections had the highest number of reported car crashes.

Michigan Auto Law publishes the list annually to bring attention to these areas, so that motorists can use extra caution when driving them.

Attorneys Steven Gursten and Todd Berg have been quoted by several Michigan media outlets on the intersections that made this year’s list.

Gursten told The Oakland Press in Pontiac that the No. 1 most dangerous intersection for 2016 — the roundabout at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake roads — had never appeared on the annual list:

“It is an intersection that was modified from a traffic light to a roundabout during the 2015 construction season. Roundabouts still remain a safe alternative, as only 27 of the 163 total crashes at Orchard Lake and 14 Mile resulted in injuries, a very low rate compared to traditional traffic lights.”

The most dangerous intersection for 2015, Pontiac Trail and M-5/Martin Parkway in Commerce Township, dropped to No. 4 in 2016. Gursten explained to The Oakland Press:

“The Road Commission for Oakland County installed fences as an experimental solution last June to slow down drivers and reduce the number of crashes.”

Berg told Hometown Life that because the Ford/Haggerty intersection in Canton saw fewer auto accidents in 2016 compared to previous years — and fell from the top 20 most dangerous intersections list — a celebration was in order:

“I hope Ford-Haggerty throws a party for itself.”

Other news outlets that reported on the 2016 list of Michigan’s Most Dangerous Intersections include:
