Auto accident attorney Larry Gursten provides advice for law school students and bar passers in Michigan Lawyers Weekly
Larry Gursten, founding partner of Michigan Auto Law, provides advice for law school students and new personal injury lawyers in Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Gursten, who’s been called “Michigan’s auto law guru” and has been practicing for more than 30 years, said at a minimum, new attorneys should attend seminars in the areas of law they’re practicing; and take college courses to get an in-depth understanding of some of the most important aspects of the area of law.
For example, as an auto accident attorney, Larry has taken classes at Wayne State University School of Medicine to better understand his clients with traumatic brain injury and closed-head injuries.

Shopper wins Michigan product liability lawsuit – $1.5 million verdict
Michigan Lawyers Weekly covers Robert Raitt’s Court of Appeals case involving personal injuries from automatic sliding doors at a store
The Michigan Court of Appeals decision Kenkel v. Stanley Works, et al. is covered by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. The court ruled that a shopper who was injured by a store’s automatic sliding doors can recover damages for her personal injuries, but her award is subject to an economic damages cap.
Personal injury attorney Robert M. Raitt, who represented the plaintiff at trial, said he was relieved the court recognized the validity of the personal injury claim, but disapointed with the damage cap. Said Raitt, “It’s ridiculous that how you are injured determines how you can be compensated.”
At trial, the Michigan jury awarded the plaintiff a $1.5 million verdict.
