Read our attorneys’ lists of the West Michigan areas with the most crashes
Today our attorneys are sharing the most dangerous intersections in Grand Rapids for our West Michigan clients, readers and friends. This data is based upon the latest motor vehicle accident statistics reported to the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit.
The first list below has the intersections where you’re most likely to be involved in a car accident. Most of these reported crashes are relatively low-impact “fender benders” where thankfully, no one was hurt. The culprits are often poorly timed traffic lights, traffic congestion or an area with limited location or roundabouts.
Our list second list has the intersections where an investigating police officer recorded an injury or death for at least one of the vehicle occupants involved in the automobile accident.

Over the past few years that our attorneys have been collecting and reviewing this data, we always see 28th Street and 44th Street showing up consistently on the list. In 2014, things changed slightly as we saw less accidents along 44th Street and more along Michigan Street. In fact, eight out of the 10 highest crash intersections are located on either 28th Street or Michigan Street.
Last year, 28th Street Southeast and Eastern Avenue Southeast had the highest number of injury or fatality crashes. This area was also No. 7 in the entire state of Michigan for injury crashes.
Please continue exercising caution on these busy streets.
