Car accident lawyer says Monroe County saw a 28 percent increase in auto accident fatalities and a 3 percent increase in crashes
From time to time, I write about cities in Michigan where our car accident lawyers do a lot of work. The headlines about the spike in auto accidents and especially wrongful death cases last year was surprising. Here are recently released statistics about Monroe County, Michigan auto accidents.
Between 2009 and 2010, there was unfortunately a 28 percent increase in fatal auto accidents. There was also a 3 percent hike in car crashes. Even though I practice in Monroe Circuit Court quite often, I don’t have an explanation yet as to why there was such a spike in auto accidents in Monroe last year.
I post this information to help make Monroe County drivers aware that car accidents and fatal crashes are on the rise. So drive carefully and defensively. Avoid distracted driving and texting, and please, stay safe.
The 2010 Traffic Crash Data below is from the Michigan Department of State Police and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. The report highlights auto accident data for every Michigan county, detailing the types of roads where car accidents occur:
2010 reported auto accidents – Monroe County, Michigan
Comparing 2010 to 2009, Monroe County saw a 3 percent increase in total auto accidents with slightly more than half occurring on local roads. The number of fatal crashes went from 14 in 2009 to 18 in 2010, a 28 percent increase in just one year.
Of the 3,797 crashes in Monroe County last year, 18 percent occurred in Frenchtown Township, Michigan, followed next by the City of Monroe with 17 percent and Bedford Township, Michigan with 12 percent of total accident crashes.

Many insurance companies require customers who have been involved in an auto accident to obtain a copy of the accident report for claims processing. If you were involved in a traffic accident within the city of Monroe, an accident report can be purchased from State of Michigan TCPS (Traffic Crash Purchasing System).
