West 12 Mile and Orchard Lake Road & West 14 Mile and Orchard Lake Road make the list with the highest number of car accidents in 2009
Farmington Hills is now home to some of the worst rush hour traffic in all of Oakland County. I know this personally because after 35 years in the Travelers Tower, Michigan Auto Law just moved our law offices to 30101 Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills. Now I have the pleasure of dealing with simultaneous construction traffic on Telegraph, 12 Mile, 13 Mile, and Orchard Lake Road in my daily commute.
Aside from my commute, as an auto accident lawyer, I’ve handled many serious personal injury cases from crashes that occur on the busy roads of Farmington Hills. It therefore came as no surprise to me (or the other 17 lawyers in my law firm that help people in car accidents) that two Farmington Hills intersections made the list of SEMCOG’s (South East Michigan Council of Governments) 10 worst intersections in Southeast Michigan this year.
But like I said in my previous blog, you can at least lessen the likelihood of being involved in a car accident if you try to avoid these two intersections, as well as remain aware of your surroundings and stay alert and calm during rush hour.
Here are the top high-crash intersections in Farmington Hills, Michigan for 2009:
* West 12 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road, 66 car accidents
* West 14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road, 48 car accidents
The busy corner of 12 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads in Farmington Hills was named the second most dangerous intersection in Southeast Michigan. With the I-696 exit/entrance ramp, Orchard Lake Road and 12 Mile all right there, this intersection consistently makes the news as one of the busiest and most dangerous. It’s also near a shopping strip area, a (very good) car wash, and two (very good) Japanese and Mexican restaurants that further jettisons drivers on the road from all different directions. And as anyone knows, that left-hand turn signal line-up of cars on 12 Mile waiting to turn on Orchard Lake Road gets very long at rush hour.
West 14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road is the point where Northwestern Highway, 14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road all converge – within 100 feet of each other. There are many bustling shopping centers right on top of this area as well (and a Dairy Queen that my kids make me take them to whenever they visit me at the office), making it very easy for crashes to occur at this dangerous intersection.
To help avoid car accidents in Farmington Hills, take a look at these safe driving tips that I like to share with my clients. It’s also a good idea review this auto accident checklist to protect your rights in case of a car accident.
Again, I’d like to wish you safe driving. Always remember, that text or phone call can wait. Keep an eye on the busy roads and you could literally save a life.
