Ford Road and Haggerty Road & Canton Center Road and Ford Road lead the list with highest number of car accidents in 2009
With 18 lawyers handling only serious car accidents and truck accidents throughout Michigan, we see hundreds of preventable crashes each year. Unfortunately, certain locations produce more auto accidents than others year after year. So annually, I share the most dangerous intersections hoping that readers, friends and clients share this information in turn.
Today I’d like to share the most dangerous intersections in Canton, Michigan. Later this week, I’ll share the intersections with the highest numbers of auto accidents in Farmington Hills, Southfield and Warren, Michigan. Intersections in these cities were included in SEMCOG’s (South East Michigan Council of Governments) list of the top 10 dangerous intersections in Southeast Michigan this year.
Last year, I blogged about the worst intersections in Southeast Michigan and received a great response. Now SEMCOG has come out with its 2009 statistics, and it’s time to update my list.
My hope is that people will try to avoid these spots. No one can protect themselves 100 percent from being involved in a car or truck accident, but the likelihood does decrease by avoiding known dangerous intersections, remaining aware and alert of your surroundings at all times, and being constantly mindful of the road conditions and other drivers.
Keep in mind that of the 871 fatal crashes occurring last year in Michigan, more than 25 percent occurred at intersections, according to the Michigan State Police Michigan Traffic Crash Facts 2009 report.
Here are the top high-crash intersections in Canton, Michigan for 2009:
* Ford Road and Haggerty Road, 74 car accidents

* Canton Center Road and Ford Road, 53 car accidents

I started with Canton’s worst intersections because the corner of Haggerty and Ford Roads – which is right of off I-275 in Oakland County and very close to the popular shopping destination of Ikea – has been named the No. 1 worst intersection in all of Southeast Michigan for the first time ever in 2009. With 74 crashes last year and 357 total car accidents in the last five years, Michigan drivers should exercise extreme caution while traveling through this busy shopping area.
Canton Center and Ford Road saw more than 50 auto accidents in 2009, also due to the hustle and bustle from the nearby shopping centers.
You might be asking yourself, what can I do to avoid a car accident in these areas? Take a look at these safe driving tips that I like to share with my clients. It’s also a good idea to print this handy auto scene accident checklist and keep it in your glove box, so you are prepared in case of a car accident.
I’d like to wish you all safe driving. Please take these treacherous intersections into account when you are behind the wheel. If you have been in an accident at one of these intersections, or want to point out an additional intersection in the area that’s unsafe in Canton, please give our lawyers feedback by posting a comment below.
Tomorrow, I’ll list the worst intersections in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
