If you’re an Oakland County resident, chances are you’re often caught in the torrential rush hour traffic that accompanies the thriving businesses in cities like Southfield and Farmington Hills. But before you put the pedal to the metal, keep in mind the number of car accidents that have happened at some of Oakland County’s most dangerous intersections.
In a report called Southeast Michigan Traffic Crash Facts 2007, the Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) listed four intersections to be cautious around. West 11 Mile Road and Southfield Road in Southfield, Michigan
Off of Interstate 696, not far from where Sunnybrook Avenue turns into Sunnybrook Street, lies Oakland County’s most dangerous intersection, W. 11 Mile Road and Southfield Road. has been responsible for more than 415 traffic accidents from 2003 to 2007.
12 Mile Road and Telegraph Road in Southfield, Michigan
Oakland County’s second most dangerous intersection lies at 12 Mile Road and Telegraph Road. Telegraph Road, also called Route 24, is a divided road that meets with 12 Mile Road. This rather busy intersection was the site of 365 motor vehicle collisions from 2003-07.
West 12 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road in Farmington, Michigan
At West 12 Mile Road, where Orchard Lake Road becomes a divided highway and leads to I-696, is the third most dangerous intersection in Oakland County, Michigan. The intersection of Orchard Lake Road and W. 12 Mile Road has hosted more than 340 accidents.
14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road in Oakland, Michigan
Close to where Route 10 turns from Northwestern Highway to West 14 Mile Road lies the fourth most dangerous intersection in Oakland County, Michigan. Between 2003 and 2007, the intersection of West 14 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road was responsible for more than 290 car accidents, according to SEMCOG.
