Last Wednesday, the U.S. Government Accountability office (GAO) released a new report on unsafe commercial trucks and buses that’s highly disturbing, even to the lawyers in our law firm, who have been specializing in truck accidents for more than 50 years. The report found that more than 500 trucking and bus companies that were ordered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) to be shut down for safety violations are continuing to operate under different names.

Steve Gursten was recently interviewed by ABC News for its nationally syndicated radio show, The Law Business Insider. The show is hosted by Steve Murphy and features America’s premier lawyers. Here is a link to the radio interview with Steve, where he spoke extensively about egregious truck driver negligence that occurred in Michigan’s largest reported settlement case, Nunez v. In addition to achieving some of the highest car and truck accident settlements each year for injury victims in Michigan, Steve Gursten has received the largest reported jury verdict for four of the past seven years.

We have received much feedback from my recent blog, Michigan Man Killed by Epileptic Trucker Driving Out-of-Service Gravel Truck. The blog outlined the case of my client, who was killed in a truck accident when a fully-loaded 150,000-pound gravel hauler lost control on I-75 in Detroit and pinned his car against the highway retainer wall, where it burst into flames.
The truck driver admitted he had received no formal training or supervision from his employer. He also said he failed to inspect the truck’s tires and brakes. Furthermore, he had a seizure disorder and was on powerful epilepsy medication that causes drowsiness and delayed reaction time.
Readers are asking: How could such an unfit and irresponsible trucker be allowed to drive on Michigan roads?
