Michigan Supreme Court considers 30-day waiting period for lawyer solicitation of accident victims by mail

January 7th, 2012

Michigan injury lawyer says Court would be wise to act, increase period to 90 days and broaden wait period for insurance companies and others as well

I don’t like injury lawyer solicitation. It gives the profession a black eye.  I’ve been outspoken about this issue and have written about it repeatedly.

Now, after  a recent hearing, the Michigan Supreme Court  is finally considering a change to injury lawyer advertising and direct mail solicitation of people who have been injured in car accidents.  One of the proposed changes prohibits injury lawyers from sending direct mail to accident victims within the first 30 days after an injury or death.

January 5th, 2012

Michigan auto accident attorney gives 11 safety tips after a fatal accident closes I-696 this morning

As many of you commuters in the Southfield and Farmington Hills area know, a six-mile stretch of I-696 was shut down this morning for many hours.

The reason for such drastic measures by police is a great tragedy. A pedestrian was trying to change a tire when he was struck multiple times and killed on the highway, according to published reports. After the initial crash, there was a subsequent auto accident that sent three people to the hospital.

Danger: Facebook and lawsuits are a BAD mix

January 3rd, 2012

Accident lawyer suggests deactivating  account until case is over

If you use a social networking account such as Facebook or Twitter, our accident lawyers STRONGLY recommend that you stop - right now.

Our MIchigan accident lawyers are not recommending that you delete your accounts, but we do strongly recommend that you temporarily deactivate your account until your lawsuit is over.

Why?  I have now seen and heard of dozens of examples where insurance defense lawyers and claims adjusters are finding information that is really hurting people.

7 New Year’s Eve safety tips to prevent drinking and driving car accidents

December 26th, 2011

Michigan injury lawyer gives a list on how to stay safe

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. As always, I’d like to share more tips - from myself and the other injury lawyers at Michigan Auto Law - to help keep all of you safe this new year.

Here’s the shocking news: this year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes, according to MADD. That’s one person killed every 50 minutes and almost double the number of Americans who have died in the entire war in Iraq. And when it comes to drinking and driving, New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous times for drinking and driving crashes.

Proposal for national ban on texting and talking on cell phones while driving

December 21st, 2011

Michigan auto accident attorney says National Transportation Safety Board recommendation is a good start to preventing car accidents due to distracted driving

As Michigan auto accident attorneys, the recent national news from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is extremely important.  I’ve lectured and written extensively about the dangers of talking and texting while driving, and this year Michigan Auto Law had a successful texting while driving awareness campaign. Now the NTSB has recommended no use of cell phones – period – for people driving in cars and trucks.

How do I drive a roundabout?

December 17th, 2011

Car accident lawyer gives 6 tips to drive a roundabout, and discusses whether roundabouts cause or prevent car accidents

There are least 20 roundabouts in Southeast Michigan, with many more proposed. As a car accident lawyer, I often hear my clients and my friends complain about how complicated these new roundabouts are.

The truth is, roundabouts are actually  easier to navigate than traditional intersections with one important caveat: you have to know the proper way to drive a roundabout.  Roundabout driving is something that many drivers, and especially elderly drivers, are unfamiliar with.

Michigan injury lawyers get $1.4 million verdict for Ingham County car accident victim

December 9th, 2011

Plaintiff was seriously injured by a State of Michigan snow plow, which ran stop sign

I’m really proud of the work that my fellow injury lawyers David Christensen and Sarah Stempky did in protecting an Ingham County car accident victim who was hit by a State of Michigan snow plow that ran through a stop sign.

This case  involved a young plaintiff whose life dramatically changed after a  serious auto accident in Ingham County, Michigan. As usual, in a state without bad faith, the defense low-balled a settlement offer through trial.

Here’s a little information about the case:
