One of the best things about being a personal injury lawyer is helping people. We make real differences in people’s lives. We help real people when they are most in need. We aren’t helping giant corporations or insurance companies or mega-banks. We aren’t churning billable hours in law libraries. We are “people lawyers.”
The icing on the cake is that the people we help are very thankful after the case is over.
It isn’t easy helping people injured in auto accidents in Michigan today. The auto insurance companies that should be paying out on valid no-fault claims often turn a deaf ear for no other reason than because they can (there is no bad faith law, punitive damages, or even a consumer protection act in Michigan today to help protect people against egregious insurance company abuse). Insurance companies and claims adjusters sometimes play games with people’s lives. Adjusters attempt to hold on to money and refuse to pay out on No-Fault PIP benefits, just because they can.
When we represent our clients, we have to fight for what is right. It’s funny how we lose sight of just how much of our work boils down to right and wrong. We have to sometimes force insurance companies to take responsibility when they wrongly refuse to accept any responsibility for the harms they’ve caused. We help people who are distraught over how they will get their medical bills paid for, and how they can survive when they can’t go back to work.
After we do our job, and we are able to meet with our client and hand over a check that makes a real difference to the lives of their entire family, we try to take time to recognize the difference we’ve made in that person’s life. That’s the best part of our job.
The photo above is a gift from one of my clients, Crisve Evans. Here’s what Crisve had to say about her experience with Michigan Auto Law:
“From the time I called until the end of the case, everything was all about good customer relations. (Bob Raitt and Alison Tomak) would return my wall within the same day. I’ve never had that experience with any company, let alone a law firm. Alison is very smart and very nice. But when I had my deposition, she was very firm with the defense attorneys and I felt very protected. Bob was also top notch. I thank Michigan Auto Law from the bottom of my heart for helping me.”
