You can pursue a mini-tort claim as long as you are less than 50 percent at fault, to recover up to $500 for the repair of your car. The legislature is currently studying whether or not they should increase this limit.
There are a number of things you should do in the event you are involved in a Michigan automobile accident. First off, call the police because, no matter how minor the fender-bender, you don’t know what the other party might decide to do later. Secondly, keep in mind, fault, even in a no-fault insurance state, can still result in substantial recovery for you, depending on the severity of the personal injury recieved from the auto accident as well as other factors. If you are physically able, get the names and phone numbers of all involved parties and any witnesses. Do not discuss the accident or sign anything from the wrongdoer’s insurance company directly after the Michigan automobile accident. Do not discuss the case with the other insurance company.
Once you have been treated medically, keep track of all of your bills and who has paid what for your expenses. If you need outside help during your recovery or incur any other out-of-pocket expenses, pay for them by check or get a receipt for your records.
File all claims with your insurance companies promptly to ensure you don’t lose your reimbursement benefits.
Lastly, if at any time you are concerned that you are not receiving all of your benefits or are confused about what you may be entitled to receive or pursue, contact a Michigan automobile accident attorney at Michigan Auto Law. Our auto accident attorneys have the knowledge and experience that you need when dealing with a serious personal injury automobile accident claim.
